i am, you are, we are……
i was doing alittle shopping yesterday in a store called american eagle, and the car song, by cat empire came on over the radio. it was so exciting hearing good australian music in the land of crappy top 50 chart hits and r’n'b. i am an australian man and always will be.
up or down, that is the question.
after i washed the dishes this morning i noticed that the people i live with store their mugs and glasses face down. at home in Australia i store all of them face up….hmmm is this a northern hemisphere phenomenon? how do you store your beverage holders?
longing for java….the saga continues
the endless search for decent coffee in Canada is possibly at a compromised end. i have found a little coffee shop with free wireless that serve a fine soy coco latte. so the burnt, bitter coffee is hidden by chocolaty goodness, not as sweet as a mocha (mokCAR, not MOcar, im Australian) but not as bitter a the burnt, bubbly monstrosity they pass off as a cap. it will have to do. i am close to jumping on a plane and going to italy to get a decent cap, but they dont do soy, so i will throw up shortly afterwoods anyway. im going to smash like 5 soy caps as soon as i get into Sydney. Sydney airport coffee is 2000 times better than anything i have had here so far.
yes man.
it’s is all a bit cheesy, but i decided before i left for Canada that i needed to say yes to every opportunity that comes up, so i can meet new people, and try new things. all that has come of it so far is fun, i have driven in a snow storm, gone to the pub with strangers, gone to random parties, planned a road trip to LA and thats just the begining. imagine where else it will lead!
build your own dinner
I went to dinner at Ikea this week. I have been a consumer of Ikea breakfasts for years now, they are a novelty and cost only $2.50, but im sorry to say…..are not very tasty. But dinner, for $2.99 (plus bloody canadian tax that is not included in the price) for sweedish meatballs and fries were amazing! Tasty, cheap and novel, its a tick in every box.
its all in the accent
it’s really fun being in a country where everybody likes you accent. im sure im developing an oversized cranium, but it’s fun all the same. almost every shopkeeper goes that extra mile to help you out and want’s to know my story. so im having lots of fun. any day im on my lonesome, i just make sure i go get a starbucks and have a chat with whoever is behind the counter. it’ s a surefire lonliness cure every time.
i really hope this formula will work gettng a job…….
patriot
when i was walking to supermarket last week, i glanced to the ground ahead of me and saw a peice of cardboard ripped into the shape of the Australian continent. as i approached, i realised it really looked more like an apple core, but hey, i saw what i saw.
driving with the force
i have had access to a car over the last week, which comes equiped with a gps. the cool thing about this gps is that yoda directs you where to go it his own yoda way. “left you must turn, congestion charge you must pay,” and the like. i actually thought i was another skywalker for a minute.
life of leasure
ive been having a good little rest over the last few days, recovering from being sick. unfrotunatly now i think im going to have to get out of holiday mode and start some serious job hunting. kind makes me sad, cause i like being a man of leasure, having spa’s, sipping tea, and super fast wireless internet on my G4.
on a side note, Jenn and i are finally in the same town again, for the last week ive been out west and Jenn has been studing. Jenn’s amazingly awsome house mate Rosy, who is the same awsome girl who lent me her car, dropped her off where im staying, but its just for a visit, all the girls are going away for a week on a wedding cruise. hmmmmmm long distance.
Mountain Range
the rocky mountains are unbelievable, i was lucky enought to spend two day’s amongst them. i stayed in a little ski town called Banff. the pitty with this town is that more ex-pats live there than Canadians.
on saturday past, i went adventuring for the day and went on a gondla to the top of sulfur mountain, the view was great, but the wind chill was not, in already -5 it was alittle too much for me to handle. i met two Aussies working the gondla and we hung out that night in a little pub the served extra dry and crownies amongst other world beers.
then on sunday i went to lake louise, they were having an ice sculpting competition, which apperently its famous for, outside the Fairmont chateau, which is also famous. i hiked up a mountain to the lake agnus tea house as i was promised i would see moose, but alas no moose just a german guy telling me he keeps meeting Aussies in Canada.
here are some photos
